Though there have been some plausible theories offered right here and elsewhere we could in no way know the answer to the original query about the receiver with both equally marks demonstrated in the past post. Based on other replacement barrels I have observed which contain both the WP and mail buy P and a press release from a former Winchester worker that indicated they DID use some mail purchase parts when rebarreling rifles returned for support I suspect that it is a substitute receiver which was put in and proofed at Winchester as well as mail get evidence was also included to easily indicate it was not the original receiver. That is certainly just my viewpoint/guess. Hope that helps.

For barrels & receivers made after 1905: Receivers possessing the “WP” proof but no “WP” or “Oval P” evidence on the barrel would point out the barrel was changed beyond Winchester utilizing a pre-1905 barrel.
